Swim Meet

  • Cowichan Aquatic Centre 2653 James Street Duncan, BC, V9L 2X5 Canada (map)

Duncan - Cowichan Aquatic Centre

Welcome new and returning swimmers to the 15th Annual Icebreaker Invitational Swim Meet, proudly hosted by the Cowichan Valley Breakers.

MEET CONDUCT

PLEASE OBEY THE RULES OF THE POOL

  • The 1.8m zone of exclusion will be used around the pool edge. Coaching from this area is not permitted and could result in ejection from the pool deck.

  • Change rooms and gym/exercise rooms will be open to the public. The racing pool and wave pool will be used exclusively for the swim meet. Change rooms and bleachers are reserved for meet participants. The sauna, steam room, waterslides, and hot tub may be closed during the meet and not open to the public.

  • No glass containers are permitted in the bleachers or on the pool deck areas. Due to limited viewing space, teams and swimmers cannot camp out on the bleachers and will be asked to move their belongings. Spectator viewing will be on the large bleachers at the deep end of the pool and the small bleachers along the street-side windows. Please limit movement during race times and follow volunteer directions.

SPECTATOR VIEWING ENTRANCE

Limited space will be available for viewing. Spectators accessing the small bleachers should enter and exit through the main entrance to the pool and the door inside by the coffee shop. Access the viewing area by going along the low wall next to the wave pool and then across the deck by the change rooms. The street-side doors will not be open for use. The large bleachers can be accessed through the left walkway from the back door (swimmers will use the right walkway). Please stay only for your swimmer’s races and respect the officials, coaches, and swimmers' space. Swimmers must follow spectator rules when not swimming or in marshalling. Thank you!

TEAM TENTS

There will be areas outside for team tents on the parking lot at the east end of the facility. All clubs and swimmers are asked to keep their areas clean. Users are responsible for the cleanliness of the pool and team areas. Additional charges could be levied back to the offending club by the pool and regional body. Ensure someone is in your club area at all times to safeguard belongings. This area sees high traffic, and CVB and the CAC cannot guarantee the safety of your items.

CLUB DUTIES

Each club must provide deck officials and timers/recorders throughout the meet and be ready at the listed start times. The VI Region has implemented 2-hour shifts for timers. Your club is accountable for all shifts; please ensure they are filled to ensure the meet runs smoothly and efficiently. If all club entries are received on time, lane assignments will be sent to all clubs on Thursday or Friday before the meet. Thank you, we appreciate your cooperation.

Our Regional Director of Officials will be running a Stroke & Turn clinic for those interested in becoming officials in the party room at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 2nd. This will take approximately 1 hour.

HEAT SHEETS & RESULTS

  1. Heat sheets will be emailed to club presidents and head coaches by Friday evening for distribution to their members.

  2. Results will be posted as they become available and on Meet Mobile.

  3. Ribbons will be available at the end of the meet. Coaches or team representatives can pick them up in the computer/ribbon room (party room off the lobby and rec pool). Please inform the meet manager if this is not possible.

  4. All Hy-Tek results will be sent by email and posted to the VI Region & BCSSA websites.

FOOD SERVICES

Volunteers – Snack food will be available for all club volunteers, officials, and timers throughout the weekend. Please bring a water bottle for refilling and a reusable coffee mug. Think green! A water-bottle filling station is available in the pool, and we will gladly help you refill your bottles if you are busy timing or officiating.

Coaches – Food will be available for coaches too! Please bring refillable water bottles and reusable coffee mugs. Think green!

Swimmers & Spectators – There will be no concession at this meet, but many nearby restaurants and grocery stores are available. Coffee on the Moon in the pool lobby will be open, but hours may vary. This year, we are delighted to offer homemade Flor & Canto Mexican-style popsicles, brought by one of our swim families. Available from 11-3 on Saturday and Sunday, these treats are made with real fruit, organic sugar, and local ingredients whenever possible. Both vegan and dairy-based options are available for $5 each.

HOTELS AND CAMPING

Please refer to the information provided by the CVRD, which has been sent to all clubs for distribution.
