  • Job Summary:
    The Cowichan Valley Breakers Swim Club is accepting applications for a Head Coach for the Summer of 2025. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced leader to serve as the operational head of our competitive youth summer swimming program. The Head Coach will oversee daily practices, manage a team of assistant coaches, and prepare athletes for swim meets.

    Dates of Employment:
    May 1 to August 18, 2025

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Program Leadership: Plan and execute a comprehensive training program that includes daily practices focused on technique, endurance, and speed development.

    • Coaching & Development: Provide hands-on coaching to swimmers (ages [insert age range]), ensuring individualized attention and improvement in strokes, starts, turns, and overall performance.

    • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of assistant coaches, ensuring a structured and productive training environment.

    • Meet Preparation: Prepare athletes for weekend swim meets by setting goals, developing race strategies, and fostering good sportsmanship; attend all meets to provide support and manage logistics.

    • Communication: Maintain open communication with swimmers, parents, and club management regarding schedules, meet details, and athlete progress.

    • Safety & Compliance: Enforce club rules, monitor pool safety, and adhere to all health and safety guidelines.

    Qualifications:

    • 2–3 years of experience as a swim coach (head coach or assistant coach) at the club or competitive level.

    • Strong knowledge of stroke technique, swim training, and meet preparation.

    • Proven leadership skills with experience managing coaching staff and working with parents.

    • Certifications: NLS and CPR – C, WSI (or equivalent), and NCCP Level 1 (or willingness to participate in a course prior to May 1, 2025).

    • A valid driver’s license or access to transportation for swim meets.

    • Clear Police Information Check with vulnerable sector screening required prior to hire.

    Working Hours:

    • Practice Schedule: Monday to Friday

    • Swim Meets: Most weekends (Saturday and Sunday), with hours varying based on meet schedules.

    Compensation:

    • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

    • Additional compensation includes Team Apparel, travel stipends for meets, and opportunities for off-season coaching.

    • Ability to connect with young athletes and help motivate them.
